The first electric container ship of the “river-sea” class was launched in China
The first of two electric container ships with a capacity of 700 TEU was launched at the Chinese shipyard COSCO Shipping Heavy Industry. The vessel will be involved in transportation on the Yangtze River.
Construction of the container ship began in December 2022. Sea trials of the ship, as well as testing of the power supply system, are scheduled for the end of September.
The length of the container ship is 120 m, width – 23.6 m, displacement – 10 thousand tons.
The ship will be able to travel about 1,000 km on batteries.
Container carriers will also use an intelligent ship management system that will regulate energy consumption taking into account various factors.
Construction of the second container ship began in May.
These container ships will be operated by COSCO’s subsidiary – Shanghai Pan Asia Shipping – on the Yangtze River from Shanghai to Wuhan.
