Ukraine and the European Commission have signed an agreement that allows our country to benefit from financing thanks to such an instrument as CEF (Connecting Europe Facility).
Experts explain that this agreement is an important milestone on the way to the post-war recovery of Ukraine, especially in terms of transport infrastructure and railways. At the same time, this is a big step forward for Ukraine’s integration into the EU single market.
The agreement was signed by Transport Commissioner Adina Valean and Deputy Prime Minister for Reconstruction of Ukraine, Minister of Communities, Territories and Infrastructure Development Oleksandr Kubrakov.
After the implementation of the document, Ukrainian developers will be able to directly apply for EU funding when it comes to transport, energy and digital projects, if they contribute to common interests with the European Union. The total budget of this program until 2027 is about 21 billion euros.
Ukraine intends to spend these funds primarily on the development of export logistics on the western borders. It is about increasing the capacity of road and railway checkpoints.
Funding of projects submitted to the CEF assumes that half of the cost is compensated by the applicant country from its own sources or international financial organizations, and 50% of the funding is provided within the framework of the program.
